Obituary of Nellie Ann Heironimus

Nellie Ann Heironimus Funeral services for Nellie Ann Heironimus of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 12 at the First Baptist Church in Elsberry. Rev. David Rubemeyer, church pastor will officiate. On Wednesday, July 13 at 1:00 p.m. a graveside memorial service will take place at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Charleston, MO followed by interment. Rev. Michael Brewer, pastor of The First Baptist Church in Charleston, MO will officiate. Mrs. Nellie Ann Heironimus, 95 of Elsberry, MO, formerly of Charleston, MO passed away Saturday, July 9 at the Elsberry Health Care Center in Elsberry. She was born January 29, 1916 in New Madrid County, MO to Jesse and Rosa Howell Bartlett. Following her mother's death she was adopted at an early age to William & Ida Hornbarger. She was a 1936 graduate of Lutesville, MO High School. She moved to Charleston, MO after graduation where she was employed and soon met "Bob" Heironimus who became her loving husband on April 22, 1939. Nellie retired in 1985 from Charleston R-I School District where she worked in food services. She enjoyed working part time for the School District for several more years after her official retirement. She was a dedicated member of The First Baptist Church in Charleston where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School worker and an active member of The Baptist Women's Missionary Union. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge & a former member of the Jesse Black Club. She became a faithful member of The First Baptist Church in Elsberry after her move to Elsberry in 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: William & Robert Bartlett; one half-brother: Jesse Bartlett; three half-sisters: Inez Thompson, Bertha Batson & Ruby Woods; one infant granddaughter; and her beloved husband of 57 years, Robert Heironimus, who passed away August 21, 1996. Survivors include two sons: Robert William Heironimus and his wife, Dorothy, of Victoria, MS, and James Vernon Heironimus and his wife, Shirley, of St. Charles, MO; one daughter: Phyllis Halley and her husband William Halley of Elsberry; three grandchildren: Stacy Watts and her husband Jesse of St. Charles, MO; Nichole Heironimus of O'Fallon, MO; and Matt Halley of St. Louis, MO; and one great-grandchild, Braxton VanTassel of O'Fallon, MO. She also leaves one sister-in-law Essie Bartlett of Muncie, Indiana, one half-sister Marcella Russell of Swartz Creek, Michigan, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 11 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry and after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church.
