Obituary of Devoid Leroy Bacon

Devoid Leroy Bacon Funeral services for Devoid Leroy Bacon of Winfield, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Winfield. Rev. Mike Ryan, church pastor, and Rev. Louis Hunt will officiate with burial in New Salem Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Rich Stone, Mark Pierce, Marty Finch, Gary Wheeler, Arnold Lewis and Paul Martin. Mr. Bacon, 87, passed away Friday afternoon, March 18, 2011 at his home near Winfield. Born December 29, 1923 in Winfield, he was the son of Leroy David and Margaret Ellazine Turnbull Bacon. He was a graduate of Winfield High School and attended two years of college. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage on September 8, 1946 at New Salem Baptist Church near Winfield to Dorothy Wenona Argent. This union was blessed with two children, Dennis and Diane. He was employed for many years as a Labor Relations Specialist at the U.S. Government Records Administration Center in St. Louis, MO, retiring in January, 1979. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Margaret Bacon. Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Dorothy "Dot" Bacon of Winfield; their children: Dennis Leroy Bacon of Winfield, and Diane Harrison and her husband, James, also of Winfield; one grandson, Chad Alan Rivers and his wife, LaDonna; and one great-grandson, Dakota Lynn Alan Rivers. He also leaves several in-laws, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
