Obituary of Dorothy May Watts

Dorothy May "Dot" Watts Funeral Services for Dorothy May "Dot" Beck Watts of Annada, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Rev. Bob Norvel, pastor of Annada Community Christian Church, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Davey Ross, Ranny Ross, Eddie Ross, Lance Sessions, Fred Dames, Gerald Taylor and Bob Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Billie Watts, Tim Baker, Bill Watts and Gary Watts. Mrs. Watts, 83, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 8, 2011. Known to her family and friends as "Dot" she was born April 14, 1927 on a farm in Pleasant Hill, IL she was the youngest of five daughters of Edger Lee and Blanche Belle Robinson Beck. At an early age, she and her family moved to a farm near New Hope, MO where she attended grade school. Her family then moved to Elsberry where she attended Elsberry High School. She was united in marriage on July 29, 1944 in Troy, MO to Alexander Parks Watts, Jr. This union was blessed with two sons: Dennis Eugene and Duane Allen. Dot worked at the Wells-Lamont Glove factory as a seamstress for several years. Later, she worked as a clerk in the L.W. Trescott Grocery Store. She then worked at Bob-A-Long/Warrenton Manufacturing in Elsberry as a cutter. While working there, she served as secretary of the Local Garment Workers Union. In 1980, she was hired as Postmaster of the Annada post office where she faithfully served the community for 26 years. She has been a member of the Annada Board of Trustees for 30 years. She was a member of the Elsberry First Baptist Church and an active participant in the Annada Christian Community Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edger and Blanche Beck; a son, Duane Watts, who passed away in September 1998; three sisters: Mary Virginia Austin, Dessie Lucille Kirtright, and Alice Elizabeth Beck; and her beloved husband of 37 years, Alexander Watts, Jr. Survivors include her son, Dennis E. "Dennie" Watts of Annada, MO; three grandchildren: Billie Watts and his wife, Rachel, of Elsberry, Angel Watts of Troy, and Michelle Watts and her companion, Tim Baker, of Elsberry; and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Frances Ross of Elsberry and a brother-in-law, Robert Watts, of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO.
