Obituary of John Loyd Adams

John Loyd Adams Funeral services for John Loyd Adams of Foley, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Rev. Scott Groshong, pastor of Corinth Christian Church and Rev. Jim Daniels, of St. Charles, will officiate with burial in St. Charles Memorial Gardens in St. Charles, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Max Collier, Jim Johnson, Jerry McClellan, Ty Noe Josh Hernandez and Ryan Parker. Mr. Adams, 81, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 2, 2010 at his home in Foley. Born January 30, 1929 in Harviell, MO, he was the son of W.S. and Minnie Bell Gooch Adams. He served his country in the United States Army from January 19, 1959 until being honorably discharged on January 27, 1962. He was united in marriage on June 30, 1960 in St. Louis, MO to Hilda Loretta Cox. This union was blessed with four children: Steven, Mike, Brenda and Diane. He worked for many years as a machinist for McDonnell-Douglas. He also worked as the Police Chief of Foley from 1961 to 2000 and as Deputy Sheriff for Lincoln County from 1979 to 2000. He was a member and past master of the New Salem Lodge #270 AF and AM, and later a member of the Lincoln County Lodge #682, both in Winfield. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of St. Louis, and a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star #405 in Troy, MO. He was a member of the Corinth Christian Church He was preceded in death by his parents: W.S. and Minnie Adams; one son Steven Sliger; one grandson, Timmy Sliger; one granddaughter, Sabrina Adams; four brothers: Bill, George, Ausborn and Lon; and six sisters: Oma, Bea, Nick, Arnita, Evelyn and LaVern. Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 years, Loretta Adams; one son, Mike Adams and his wife, Kim, of Mountain Grove, AR; two daughters: Brenda Morton, and her husband, Dean, of St. Louis, MO and Diane Hernandez of Wentzville, MO; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He also leaves one sister, Fern Aldridge of Poplar Bluff, MO and a sister-in-law, Rosealee Adams of Jefferson City, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. A Masonic service will be held at 7:00 p.m. during the visitation.
