Obituary of Evelyn Clair Powelson

Evelyn Clair Powelson Funeral services for Evelyn Clair Powelson of Winfield, MO, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield, MO. Rev. Sammy Lorton, pastor of Whiteside Holiness Church, and Rev. Duaine Blackmore will officiate with burial in Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Todd Powelson, Price Powelson, Payne Powelson, Ryan Flanagan, Zachary McDonald, Dustin Moreland, Shane Moreland, Phillip Daniel and Ryan Daniel. Mrs. Powelson, 88, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 13, 2010 at the Elsberry Health Care Center. Born January 16, 1922 in Foley, MO she was the daughter of Willie Lee and Mabel Clair Cunningham Blackmore. She was a 1940 graduate of Elsberry High School. She was united in marriage on June 28, 1941 in Elsberry, MO to James Richard Powelson, Sr. This union was blessed with six children: James R., Jr., Gail, Oma, Cheryl, Kim and Dwight. She was a homemaker and worked for many years as a cook for Winfield Schools. She attended Foley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one son, James R. Powelson, Jr.; one sister, Milroy Whiteside Newman; and her beloved husband of 54 years, James Richard Powelson, Sr. Survivors include one son, Dwight Powelson and his wife, Marie, of Winfield; four daughters: Gail Scoggins and her husband, Stanley of Winfield, Oma McDonald and her husband, Jim, of Winfield, Cheryl Moreland and her husband, Howard, of Webb City, MO and Kim Flanagan and her husband, Larry, of Elsberry; one daughter-in-law, Delores Powelson of St. Charles, MO; twelve grandchildren: Todd Powelson and his wife, Janice, Amy Endsley, Zachary McDonald, Dustin Moreland, Shane Moreland, Ashley Flanagan, Ryan Flanagan, Price Powelson, Payne Powelson, Shauna Daniel, Philip Daniel and Ryan Daniel; and six great-grandchildren: Erin Powelson, Chase Powelson, Braden Powelson, Nicholas Endsley, and Thomas McDonald. She also leaves one brother, Duaine Blackmore and his wife, Deanna of Conway, AR; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
