Obituary of Ruth Virginia Schlesinger

Ruth Virginia Schlesinger Funeral services for Ruth Virginia Schlesinger of Winfield, MO, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield, MO. Rev. Jim Huffman of Troy and Rev. Terry O'Brien, interim minister of Moscow Mills First Baptist Church, will officiate with burial in New Salem Cemetery in Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert "Roscoe" Hines, Dennis Hines, George Gifford, Mike Eaton, Rick Nipper, Al Ferguson, Paul Martin and Devoid Bacon. Mrs. Schlesinger, 89, passed away Friday afternoon, April 9, 2010 at the Elsberry Health Care Center. Born May 16, 1920 in Jonesburg, MO, she was the daughter of Henry and Anna Kasmann Stoneberger. She was united in marriage on May 28, 1943 in Wellsville, MO to Roy Schlesinger. This union was blessed with two children: Ronald Lee and Anna Louise. She was a volunteer for WINCO and delivered meals for 17 years. She worked with her husband at Cuivre Park Baptist Camp for 32 years as a cook. She served as treasurer of Moscow Mills Baptist Church from 1982 to 2004 and was a big help in starting the church. Prior to that, she was a faithful servant to New Salem Baptist Church and took on many roles there, including training union and Sunday school teacher. She also helped out at the Bible school when needed. She enjoyed gardening and was known for her beautiful flowers. She would share her crops and bulbs with others so that they could enjoy them as well. Most important to her was her family and church, who always came first. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Stoneberger; one brother, William Stoneberger; one sister, Flora Grotweil; and her beloved husband of 43 years, Roy Schlesinger. Survivors include one son, Ronald Lee Schlesinger of Winfield; one daughter, Anna Swenson and her husband, Wayne, of Troy, MO; four grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She also leaves one brother, Eddie Stoneberger of Winfield; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
