Obituary of Richard Lynn Wood

Funeral Services for Richard Lynn “Rick” Wood of Elsberry, MO will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Kris Hagemeier, pastor of Elsberry First Christian Church and Jason Mirikitani, Chaplain for Gentiva Hospice, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be David Fakes, Mike Bohrer, Bob Manning, Sid Baker, Eddie Green and Brad Green. Rick, 70, passed away Wednesday morning, January 24, 2024 at his home. Born June 22, 1953 in St. Charles, MO, he was the son of Henry Edison and Virginia Lee Gasperen Wood. Rick was a 1971 graduate of St. Charles High School. Rick was united in marriage on September 22, 1970 in St. Charles to Janet Lynn Swyers. This union was blessed with three children: Ricky, Juliet and Joshua. Rick and Janet were married for 25 years before her passing on January 1, 1996. Rick was later married on June 25, 1998 in Elsberry to Jody Ellen Smith Ligon. Rick and Jody were married for nearly 12 years before her passing on March 4, 2010. Rick served as a fireman for the Elsberry Volunteer Fire Department for 8 years. He enjoyed music, especially playing the guitar in At It Again. Rick was united in marriage on September 12, 2015 in Tompkinsville, KY to Patricia Ann Proffitt. They were married for 6 years before her passing on October 22, 2021. Rick owned and operated Rick’s Auto Repair in Elsberry, retiring in 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Virginia Wood; his sister, Brenda Green; his twin-brother, Randy Wood; one step-daughter, Jessica Goist; his son, Ricky Wood, who died on December 25, 1971; and his wives: Janet Wood, Jody Ligon Wood, and Patricia Proffitt-Wood. Survivors include his daughter, Juliet Hailey and her husband, Kevin, of Elsberry; his son, Joshua Wood of Springfield, MO; stepdaughters: Lori Javaux and her husband, Jeremy, of Elsberry, Leah Goist of Elsberry and Rachel Williams of Alabama; stepsons: Mike Ligon and his wife, Shellie, of Bowling Green, MO, Patrick Goist of Springfield, MO and Eric Goist of Springfield; and two grandsons: Gavin and Gabriel. Rick also leaves his sister, Lisa Wood of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home.
