Obituary of James William Holley

Memorial Services for James William Holley of Elsberry, MO will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Kris Hagemeier, pastor of Elsberry First Christian Church will officiate. Inurnment will be private. Mr. Holley, 80, passed away late Saturday morning, January 6, 2024 at the Elsberry Health Care Center. Born February 8, 1943 in Elsberry, he was the son of George Bufford and Dorothy M. Dameron Holley. Jim was a 1961 graduate of Elsberry High School. He worked as a Foreman for General Motors in Muncie, IN, retiring after 20 years. Jim then worked for the Missouri Department of Conservation. He later worked for Missouri Department of Transportation, retiring after 12 years. Jim was united in marriage on October 6, 1996 in St. Charles, MO to Phyllis Jean Canady. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, dogs and antiquing. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Holley; his sister, Georgia Marie Braun; and his beloved wife, Phyllis Holley, who died on July 27, 2017. Survivors include his daughters: Jamie Smith and her husband, Chris, of Overland, MO and Marci Rouse and her significant other, Christopher Hefner, of Troy, MO; and two grandchildren: Holly Rouse and Tucker Leifert. Jim also leaves his nephews: George Braun and his wife, Debbie, of St. Louis, MO and Glenn Braun and his wife, Patt, also of St. Louis; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Memorial Services at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Missouri (or) St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
