Obituary of Jerry McMichael

Graveside Services with Full Military Honors for Jerry McMichael of Snowhill, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Rev. Larry Gallaher, pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church near Foley, MO, will officiate. Mr. McMichael, 89, passed away Sunday night, October 15, 2023, at The Westchester House in Chesterfield, MO. Born November 11, 1933 in Gulfport, MS, he was the son of William A. and Elizabeth Taylor McMichael. Jerry served his country in the United States Air Force from June 15, 1955 until his honorable discharge on December 20, 1966 as a Captain. In the fall of 1965, Jerry McMichael competed with the 326th Fighter Intercept Squadron at William Tell Weapons meet at Tyndall AFB in Florida. Jerry McMichael, Captain, was top gun at the met. He was the only pilot to fire a perfect score in the 1965 Air Force Worldwide Fighter Interceptor Weapons meet. His perfect score included a target being pulled at nearly the speed of sound. For this performance, he was pinned the Air Force Commendation Medal. Jerry then worked as a pilot for TWA until his retirement in 1989. Jerry was united in marriage on January 2, 1981 in St. Charles, MO to Luna Mae Daniels. Jerry was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he served as cemetery sexton for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elizabeth McMichael; four brothers: John McMichael, William “Bill” McMichael, James McMichael and Henry McMichael; one son, Steve McMichael; one grandson, Graden Lovelace; and his beloved wife of 39 years, Luna McMichael. Survivors include one son, Tom; one stepdaughter, Shonda Boyer and her husband, Curtis; one grandson, Chevy; other relatives and many friends.
