Obituary of Richard Aloysius Anthony

Funeral Services for Richard Aloysius Anthony of Winfield, MO will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Richard’s family will lead the Service. Richard, 73, passed away Wednesday night, September 20, 2023 at Progress West Hospital in O’Fallon, MO. Born June 21, 1950 in St. Charles, MO, he was the son of Diederich Aloysius and Adele Marie Gnade Anthony. Raised in rural Old Monroe, he was a 1968 graduate of St. Dominic Catholic High School in O’Fallon, MO. Richard served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from May 26, 1969 until he was honorably discharged May 23, 1973. During his service, he was assigned to Indochina, Vietnam and Korea as an avionics and radar repairman. He was united in marriage on September 27, 1980 in Old Monroe, MO to Lavada Mae Gilbert. Their home was blessed with three children: Neil, Nettie and Richard, Jr. Richard worked as an electrician in the skilled trades for General Motors in Wentzville, MO for many years until his retirement in 2019. He was a member of the UAW Local #2250 in Wentzville. He was a member of the VFW Post #8828 in Troy, MO. Richard enjoyed the Veteran’s Coffee Talk in Troy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Diederich and Adele Anthony; three brothers: one that died in infancy, John Anthony and Paul Anthony; three sisters: Teresa Travers, Doris Harrison and Sister Jane Anthony; and a son-in-law, Brady Swindell. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 43 years, Lavada Anthony; three children: Neil Earl Emily of Bowling Green, MO, Nettie Leola Altman and her husband, Michael, of Winfield, and Richard Aloysius Anthony, Jr. (Ricky) and his wife, Dana, of Moscow Mills, MO; seven grandchildren: Courtney and her husband, Brandon, Thomas, Tyler, Stanley Ryan, Brandon, Dustin and Ashlee; three great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Hadley and Arlee; and three God children: Jeff Harrison, DeDe Hance and Alan Travers. Richard also leaves two sisters: Rose Ann Heitman of Moscow Mills, and Mary Burkemper of Old Monroe; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Full Military Honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. prior to the Visitation which will be held from 3:00 p.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
