Obituary of Janice Lee DeGerlia

Funeral Services for Janice Lee DeGerlia of Elsberry, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Sam Byers, pastor of the Elsberry First Baptist Church, and Rev. Dr. Dossie Randle, Chaplain for BJC Hospice, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Waggoner, Brad Waggoner, Joe Brockman, Robbie Lovelace, Eric Lovelace and Jimmy Lovelace; honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Lovelace, Charles Waggoner, Bennie Watkins, John Martin, Ronnie Vaughn, Sr. Jimmy Jeans, Dennis Lovelace, Larry Black, Don Beck, Tommy Kinion, Billy Collins, Bobby Green and Bryan Davis. Mrs. DeGerlia, 82, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 3, 2023, at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital in St. Peters, MO. Born November 6, 1940 in Elsberry, she was the daughter of Charles Aaron and Mary Ella Lovelace Waggoner, Sr. A lifelong resident of Elsberry, Janice was a graduate of Elsberry High School. She was united in marriage on December 17, William Albert "Bill" DeGerlia. This union was blessed with four children, Paul Albert, Paula Lee, January Lynne and William Adam. Janice worked as the Wholesale Sales Supervisor at Forrest Keeling Nursery, retiring in 2020 after 50 years. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Waggoner, Sr.; her beloved husband, of 61 years, William “Bill” DeGerlia; and twin infants, Paula Lee and Paul Albert DeGerlia in October, 1961. Survivors include two children, January DeGerlia and Adam DeGerlia, both of Elsberry. She also leaves one brother, Charles Waggoner, Jr. and his wife, Bobbi, of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) (or) Myasthenia Gravis Research in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
