Obituary of Leon Fakes

Funeral Services for Chester Leon Fakes of Elsberry, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, with his son, Bryan Fakes, pastor of Connection Christian Church in Dardenne Prairie, officiating. Burial will be in Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry immediately after the service. Mr. Fakes, 76, passed away Tuesday evening, August 29, 2023, at Sunterra Springs in Dardenne Praire, MO. Born November 17, 1946 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Chester Ben and Mildred Mary Salmans Fakes. Raised in Elsberry, Leon was a 1964 graduate of Elsberry High School. He then graduated from radiological school in St. Louis as a certified X-Ray technologist and served his residency at St. Louis County Hospital. He would later go on to become a CT technologist as well. Leon spent several years working as an X-Ray tech at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, MO, where he was also an EMT instructor for the University of Missouri. Leon concluded his career at Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana, MO until he retired. Leon played the drums in many bands over the years. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs, and also enjoyed bowling and fishing. Leon was a long-time member of the Elsberry First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester B. and Mildred Fakes; one sister, Dr. Sandra Adkins; and his infant son, Stephen Allen Fakes in 1978. Survivors include four children: Bryan Fakes and his wife, Kirsten of St. Peters, MO, Julie Fakes of Marthasville, MO, Jonathan Fakes of Bourbon, MO, and Tiffany Baker of Carrollton, MO; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Leon also leaves two brothers: David Fakes and his wife, LaVerna, of Elsberry, and Wes Fakes and his wife, Marcia, of Albuquerque, NM; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of the Service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
