Obituary of Charlene Wolfe

Funeral services for Charlene Wolfe of Elsberry, MO will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Elsberry United Methodist Church under the direction of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Brenda Cockrell, pastor of the Centennial United Methodist Church, will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Elsberry City Cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Wolfe, 69, passed away early Saturday morning, April 26, 2014 at Barnes St. Peters Hospital in St. Peters, MO. Born January 24, 1945 in Troy, MO, she was the daughter of Edward and Isabell Webster Steele. She was raised in Elsberry where she was a member of the EHS class of 1963 until her senior year when she was in a car accident. After recovering from injuries, Charlene graduated with the class of 1964 from Elsberry High School. She was a former member of the Elsberry Jaycees. She was united in marriage on August 27, 1967 in Elsberry to Wendell Houston Wolfe. She earned her CNA and worked in area nursing homes for many years. Charlene was a member of the Centennial United Methodist Church in Elsberry, where she served on the Pastor-Parrish Committee and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Isabell Steele; two brothers: Charles Steele, Sr. and Glen Steele two daughters: Wendy Wolfe, who died as an infant on September 1, 1975, and Melissa DeAnn Wolfe, who passed away on September 10, 2003; and her husband of 30 years, Wendell Wolfe, who died November 30, 1997. Survivors include one brother, Milford Steele and his wife, Vivian, of Elsberry; one sister, Marsleen Kerr and her husband, Curtis, Sr., of Elsberry; one nephew, Charles Steele, Jr. and his wife, Susan; and five nieces: Michelle Steele, Frieda Powell, Glenda Steele, Marlena Davis and Curtissa Kerr Hunter (who lived in Charlene's home during her teenage years) and her husband, Allen Hunter. She also leaves her uncle Luther Steele of Wright City, MO; one aunt-in-law, Lula Belle Webb of Louisiana, MO; several great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Elsberry United Methodist Church in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Charity of the Donor's Choice in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
