Obituary of Charles Ray Watkins

Funeral Services for Charles “Charlie” Ray Watkins of Elsberry, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Burial will be in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Watkins, Gene Hunter, Kenny Suddarth, Trevor Moore, Morgan Wilch, Jayce Hudspeth, Jay Hudspeth and Tony Chandler; honorary pallbearers will be Reese Moore and Danny Hughes. Mr. Watkins, 57, passed away early Saturday morning, April 16, 2016 at his home in Elsberry. Born September 26, 1958 in Troy, MO, he was the son of Owen Raymond and Barbara Gale McDonald Watkins. He was united in marriage on March 7, 2011 in Troy, MO to Clevie Ellen Murphy. He was employed as a commercial truck driver. In his earlier years, he enjoyed camping and fishing. Charlie was an avid gardener and loved giving away his produce. Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Raymond “Popeye” Watkins; his maternal grandparents, Charles “Buck” and Delma McDonald; and his paternal grandparents, Pete and Violet Watkins. Survivors include his wife, Clevie Murphy-Watkins; four daughters: Melanie Watkins and her companion, Trevor Moore of Elsberry, Katie Wilch and her husband, Morgan, of Columbia, MO, Brittany Kube and her companion, Danny Hughes, of Imperial, MO and Mia Watkins of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren: Jayce Hudspeth, Reese Moore, Hunter Heitman, Kenley Moore and Danny Hughes, Jr. Charlie also leaves his mother, Barbara Presley of Elsberry; one sister, Diane Lybarger of Perry, MO; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
