Obituary of Vivian Luceil Hammel

Funeral Services for Vivian Luceil Hammel of Troy, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Rev. Richard Turnbull of Winfield, MO and Carl D. Terrill will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Birkhead, Eddie Shaw, Carl D. Terrill, Matt Brunnert, Eric Mooney and Arthur Russell Hammel. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Birkhead, Greg Horst, John Brunnert and Tom Murphy. An inurnment will be held at a later date. Mrs. Hammel, 83, passed away early Monday morning, June 17, 2013 at her home in Troy. Born May 28, 1930 in Nellyville, MO, she was the daughter of Thomas Russell and Allie Bowen Ferguson. She was united in marriage on July 29, 1947 in Mayfield, KY to Arthur William Hammel. This union was blessed with three children: Susan, Linda and Phillip. In 1959 Art and Vivan purchased Timberlake Marina where she worked as an operator until her retirement in 1989. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Allie Ferguson; two brothers: Robert Bowen and Jack Ferguson; one son, Phillip Hammel in 1997; and her beloved husband of nearly 63 years, Art Hammel on June 10, 2010. Survivors include two daughters: Susan Horst and her husband, Greg, of Troy, MO and Linda Birkhead and her husband, Joe, of Perry, MO; one former daughter-in-law, Shellie Hammel-Simmons of Eolia, MO; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren . She also leaves two sisters-in-law: Rita Bowen and Helen Ferguson, both of Park Hills, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home; 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
