Obituary of William Arlie Turnbull

Funeral Services for William Arlie Turnbull of Winfield, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Winfield. Rev. Mike Ryan, church pastor, will officiate with burial in New Salem Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Stanley Dildine, Dustin Dildine, Darrell Turnbull, Doug Turnbull, Skyler Julian, Eddie Mershon, Don Fisher and Zayne Fieweger. Mr. Turnbull, 79, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 26, 2013 at Maple Grove Nursing Home in Louisiana, MO. Born April 18, 1933 in Troy, MO, he was the son of William Archie and Martha Mae Yates Turnbull. At age nine, he accepted the Lord as Savior at New Salem Baptist Church in Winfield and was baptized in Bob's Creek. He was united in marriage on January 20, 1951 in Winfield to Roice Fern Lavy. This union was blessed with two children: Ron and Patricia. He served his country in the United States Army from July 11, 1953 until being honorably discharged on April 15, 1955. He farmed all of his life in the New Salem community and later in the Curryville, MO community. He loved coon hunting and riding horses. Seven years ago, the Turnbull family started the biannual Back 40 Bluegrass Festival at Curryville. He was a longtime member and former Deacon at New Salem Baptist Church and later a member of Troy Baptist Church in Troy. He currently was a member of First Baptist Church of Winfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Martha Turnbull; and two brothers: Elba Turnbull in 1993 and Shelby Turnbull in 1999. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Roice Turnbull of Winfield; one son, Ron Turnbull and his wife, Yvonne, of Curryville; one daughter, Patricia Rodebaugh and her husband, Larry, of Foley, MO; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and four "adopted" great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Rev. Richard Turnbull and his wife, Vivian, of Winfield; two sisters: Wilhelmine Shramek and her husband, William, of Silex, MO, and Helen Phelps of Springfield, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Winfield. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be held again on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Service.
