Carter-Ricks Funeral Homes Phone 573-898-2181 / Fax 573-898-3148 Newspaper Notice of Death Ernest Paul Smith A Funeral Service for Ernest Paul Smith of Elsberry, MO was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Msgr. Gregory Schmidt, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Serving as pallbearers were Kurt Smith, Tony Berardino, Dean Kinsler, Daniel Heitman, Dennis Volner and Kenny Quinn. Mr. Smith, 76, died early Monday morning, February 5, 2007 at his home in Elsberry. Born March 6, 1930 in Perryville, MO, he was the son of Bernard and Lucille Manning Smith. He served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict from October 28, 1949 until being honorably discharged May 17, 1952. He was united in marriage on October 6, 1952 in Blytheville, AR to Iola Verneal Myers. This union was blessed with five children: Michael, Marilyn, David, Larry and Raymond. He was employed for many years as a laborer for Poaring Steel Foundries until retiring. He was a member of the American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Lucille Smith; one son-in-law, Tom Jump, who died in 1985; and one daughter, Marilyn Jump, who died in 1994. Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Iola Smith of Elsberry; and four sons: Michael Smith and his wife, Belynda, of Germany, David Smith and his wife, Arlene, of Old Monroe, MO, Larry Smith and his wife, Viola, of Blytheville, AR and Raymond Smith of Elsberry. He also leaves one brother, Ronald Smith of Warrenton; two sisters: Rose Larkins of Port Charlotte, FL and Wanda McGinnis of St. Louis, MO; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 9:00 until time of service Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
