Obituary of Cheri Catherine Buckner
A Celebration of Life for Cheri Catherine Buckner of O'Fallon, MO will take place August 16, 2026 between 1pm and 4pm; Location: VFW Post 5077, 8500 Veterans Memorial Pkwy, O'Fallon, MO 63366.
Cheri, 82 was born on August 16, 1943 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Charles Lee Wood and Hazel Violet Parker Wood. Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and friend passed away peacefully in her home July 30, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. Cheri was united in marriage on April 21, 1984 in Brentwood, MO to Jerald Boyd Buckner. She worked for Emerson Electric for 45 years, beginning in an entry level position before retiring as an Executive Secretary on January 2, 2009.
Cheri was a giver and a wonderful caretaker of others, she would do this with love and patience. Always telling everyone to look for the "Positives in the Negatives". Her home was the center of every holiday, birthday and family milestone-a place where we could all come together to laugh and share some of the most important moments as we grew with one another. She loved feeding all that came to visit her with her wonderful food and snacks. Cheri loved creating countless memories with her siblings, children and grandchildren. Her legacy will live on in our lives through the love and sunshine she gave so freely.
Cheri was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hazel V. Wood, two brothers: Frank C. Wood and Charles "Jesse" Wood, Jr., two sisters: Sandra Louise Wood and Mary Ellen Parker; sister-in-law Roma Wood; and her beloved husband of nearly 41 years, Jerald Buckner.
Survived by two sons: Christopher McAlister of O'Fallon and Jeffrey D. Burris and his wife Diann of Kirkwood, MO., two stepsons: Jeff Buckner and wife, Debbie of Florida, and Dennis Buckner of California; also her loved six Grandchildren; Devin, Grace, Dylan, Devinn, Audrey and Drew; and four Great-Grandchildren. Cheri also leaves behind two brothers: Richard Wood of Richview, IL and Alfred Wood and his wife, Sandy of Troy, MO; her best friend and Sister, Cathy Wallace of Elsberry, MO and many other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South 5th Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
