Obituary of Allie Ruth Philpot

Funeral Services for Allie Ruth Philpot of Elsberry, MO will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Patrick Sartain and Tody Shaffer will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick Sartain, Henry Sartain, Dale Wallace, Ronnie Vaughn, Travis Austin and Ricky Witt. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Wallace, Joe Wallace, Gerald Wallace and Tody Shaffer. Ruth, 102, was born on June 20, 1924 in Henneger, AL, the daughter of James Edward and Minnie Worthen Cowert. Ruth worked as a seamstress for the Garment Factory in Elsberry, Winfield and Clarksville, MO. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in O’Fallon, MO. Ruth enjoyed cooking. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, James and Minnie Cowert; her husband, Muriel Eugene Philpot; her son, Donald Wayne Sartain; two brothers: Cecil Cowart and Dewey Cowart; two half-brothers: Bill Wallace and Nick Wallace; and one half-sister, Wanda Joyce Miller. Survivors include her grandson, Patrick Sartain and his wife, Wendi, of Lake St. Louis, MO; two great-grandchildren: Henry and Harper; and one daughter-in-law, Patty Sartain of O’Fallon. Ruth also leaves her longtime friend, Goldie Foster; three half-brothers: Joe Wallace and his wife, Viola, of Olive Branch, MS, Gerald Wallace and his wife, Peggy, of Fulton, MS and Ted Wallace, also of Fulton, MS; two half-sisters: Peggy Witt of Fulton, MS and Shirley Guntharp and her husband, Edward, of Nettleton, MS; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
