Obituary of Harry Eldon Ogden

Funeral Services for Harry Eldon Ogden of Elsberry, MO will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Kris Hagemeier, pastor of the Elsberry First Christian Church, will officiate. Burial with Full Military Honors will be in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Andy Burkemper, James Suddarth, Tyler Ligon, Joe Ogden, Curtis Ogden, Jay Ogden and Dalton Ogden. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Keith Dameron, Darrell Painter, Denis Reed, Benny Watkins, Jim Noble and John Noble. Harry, 96, was born on December 9, 1929 in Elsberry, the son of George Ernest and Virginia Anne Hawkins. He served his country in the United States Army from September 27, 1948 until his honorable discharge on July 5, 1952. Harry was united in marriage on May 1, 1964 in Elsberry to Gayle Humphrey. Their home was blessed with three children: Harry Gene, Kelly and Curtis. He worked as a truck driver for MFA and Parts Exchange for many years. Harry then drove a school bus for the Elsberry R-2 School District. He was a 74 year member of American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry. Harry enjoyed listening to St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. In his younger years, Harry enjoyed shooting pool. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, George and Virginia Ogden; three brothers; one sister; one son, Harry Gene “Bubba” Ogden; and one granddaughter, Lindsey Jo Ogden Whyte. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Gayle Ogden of Elsberry; one daughter, Kelly Burkemper and her husband, Andy, of Elsberry; one son, Curtis Ogden and his wife, Jeanne, of Elsberry; and one daughter-in-law, Kathy Ogden of Elsberry. Harry also leaves seven grandchildren: Joe Ogden, Jenny Garnett, Chelsey Suddarth, Tyler Ligon, Jay Ogden II, Dalton Ogden and Faith Ogden; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
