Obituary of Mark Edward Moore

A Celebration of Life honoring Mark Edward Moore of Old Monroe, MO will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at The Hoelting Family Farm near Foley. Rev. Kris Hagemeier, pastor of the Elsberry First Christian Church, will officiate. Mark, 65, passed away Saturday evening, May 23, 2026 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis MO. Born September 14, 1960 in Alton, IL, he was the son of Thomas Lee and Lorna Lea Hughes Moore. He was a 1979 graduate of Fort Zumwalt High School in OFallon, MO. Mark was married from 1980 until 2006 to Linda Spalding. This union was blessed with three children: Ryan, Kari and Karley. He was later married to Elizabeth Burkemper. He was employed as a heavy press operator with O’Fallon Castings until his retirement in September of 2025. Mark left behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, friendships and unforgettable memories. To know Mark was to know someone who truly lived life his own way – loving, silly adventurous and always surrounded by people. Known affectionately by many as “Riverdog2”, Mark created friendships that felt like family. He loved being around people, making memories, and enjoying the simple things that made life fun. He also carried a strong faith and spirit that remained with him throughout his life. Mark loved the river and everything that came with it, including boating and kayaking. He also loved cruising town on the golf cart, chopping wood, listening to music and gathering with friends for a good time. He never met a stranger and had a gift for making people laugh and feel welcome. Whether he was partying with friends, sharing stories, posting on Snapchat or taking his famous “Riverdog walk”, Mark brought energy and personality everywhere he went. More than anything, Mark will be remembered for the way he made people feel – included, entertained, cared for and loved. His absence leaves a void, but his stories, laughter and larger-than-life presence will live on through everyone fortunate enough to know him. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Lorna Moore; one son, Ryan Edward Moore, who died as an infant; and one brother-in-law, Darren Pilarski. Survivors include his daughters: Kari Hoelting and her husband, Eli, of Foley, MO, and Karley Rizzo of Lake St. Louis, MO; and five grandchildren: Mason, Grady, Percy, Luke and Jake. Mark also leaves two sisters: Grace Pilarski of O’Fallon, MO, and Lori Nipper and her husband, Jeff, of Warrenton, MO; two brothers, Earnest Moore of Warrenton, MO, and Robert Moore and his wife, Laura, of Kirkwood, MO; several cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Family and friends are welcome to join the Celebration of Life honoring Mark with visitation at 4:00 p.m., dinner at 6:00 p.m. and the Memorial Service at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at The Hoelting Family Farm, 2666 South Hwy. W. Foley MO 63347. Memorials may be made to The Key Youth Center in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 3838 East Highway 47, P.O. Box 253, Winfield, MO 63389.
