My first memory of my Uncle Frank was when I was little and he would take me outside to see his German Shepherd, Bunky. It was clear how much he loved animals. I remember how he would speak so kindly to them in kind of a sing-songy voice. Love for animals of all kinds was what we had in common. He was a quiet person, but when we talked, it was always about animals. Every year of my childhood and young adulthood I looked forward to and appreciated the special Christmas gift from my uncle, he truly was Santa Claus to us all. He even went through a phase where he weighed a little more more and had the fluffiest white beard. He always was so selfless and kind. He traveled a lot, and moved around quite a bit, but he never forgot about anyone back home. I can't forget the biggest gift of all, which is my home. I never asked for anything from my Uncle Frank but he just gave and gave. I felt bad for him when his Chihuahua, Scrappy, went missing one time, and I gave him a Shih Tzu puppy. He wanted to pay me for the puppy. I said absolutely not! After all the things he'd done for me. Shortly after that I received $500 worth of Petco gift cards in the mail. I didn't see him much in the last year. I was afraid to, afraid that he wouldn't remember me. Afraid that my fond memories of him would be replaced with sad ones. I have great respect for my Aunt Cathy for setting her wants and needs, her life aside to care for him when he needed help. I'll never forget my big, strong, but peaceful Uncle, one that always made me feel safe, valued, and loved.
