Obituary of Russell James Gnade

A Mass of Christian Burial for Russell James Gnade of Old Monroe, MO will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe. Fr. Michael Lampe, church pastor, and Deacon Neal Westhoff will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be David Gnade, Chris Gnade, Andy Gnade, Matthew Gnade, Dan Herbert and Scott Herbert. Russell, 77, passed away Monday afternoon, February 16, 2026 at his home. Born October 6, 1948 in Old Monroe, he was the son of Elmer Anthony “John” and Lorraine Frances Burkemper Gnade. Russell was a 1966 graduate of Winfield High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force from August 14, 1967 until his honorable discharge on August 13, 1971. Russell was united in marriage on April 23, 1977 in Old Monroe to Kathy Jean Briner. This union was blessed with two daughters: Angie and Sarah. Russell owned Crown Service Station with his brother Kenny. After closing the station, he went on to work for Mueller Brothers Timber. He then went to drive for National Petroleum prior to retirement. Russell was a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a member of American Legion Post #420 in Old Monroe, where he was a member of the Military Funeral Honors Program. Russell enjoyed attending Coffee Talk in Troy, MO Russell was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lorraine Gnade. Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Kathy Gnade of Old Monroe; their daughters: Angie Gentemann and her husband, Joe, of Old Monroe and Sarah Reading and her husband, John, of Foristell, MO; and four grandchildren: Taylor and Brayden Gentemann and Emma and Aidan Reading. Russell also leaves two brothers: Ronald Gnade and his wife, Janet, of O’Fallon, MO and Kenneth Gnade and his wife, Linda, of Old Monroe; one sister, Linda Herbert and her husband, Ed, of Old Monroe; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
