Obituary of Jeanett Palmer
Funeral Services for Jeanett Palmer of Elsberry, Missouri will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Steven Bradshaw, pastor of Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry.
Jeanett, 92, passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2026. She was born on March 27, 1933 in Dameron, Missouri, the daughter of Lulu Barnes and Alfred McDonald. Jeanett was an Elsberry High School graduate, class of 1951. She aspired to pursue a Ministry major at Hannibal LaGrange College and was asked by Congressman Clarence Cannon to serve as his secretary. She had to graciously decline both opportunities in order to take care of her ailing mother. Yet her dreams never faded. At the age of 86 she finally pursued her passion for writing, crafting short stories and poems drawn from the experiences of her remarkable life. Her collection, The Country Rose, is now published on Amazon and proudly recorded in the Library of Congress, Control #2019904135, Published 5/9/19.
Jeanett was a longtime member of both the Elsberry Baptist Church and the Star Hope Baptist Church of Elsberry. She was united in marriage on December 25, 1955, to Charles R. Palmer of Elsberry. Together they were blessed with 6 children. She is survived by her daughter, Debi Bowser and her husband, Arnie of Divide, Montana, her son, Daniel Palmer of Elsberry, her daughter, Donna Hammon and her husband, Rich of St. Peters, Missouri, her son, Derrick Palmer and his wife, Leslie of East Alton, Illinois, and her son, Dedric Palmer of Elsberry. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jeanett is preceded in death by her husband Charles R. Palmer; her parents, Lulu and Alfred McDonald; her sister, Hazel Stillwell; sister, Irene Swan; brother, Buck McDonald; brother, Norman McDonald; brother, Johnny McDonald; along with several nieces and nephews, her son, Dennis R. Palmer; her granddaughter, Aricca Nicholle Palmer; and grandsons: Michael McCafferty and Jared Bowser.
Jeanett will be missed by many family members and friends, especially her children, who treasure their weekly Sunday morning calls.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
