Obituary of Winona Bowers

Funeral Services for Winona Bowers of Elsberry, MO will be at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Elsberry First Christian Church. Rev. Kris Hagemeier, church pastor, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Abby Peake, Jim Danielson, Jacob Danielson, Joe Bowers, Martin Bowers and Larry Carter. Winona, 94, was born on April 4, 1931 in the Oak Ridge community near Elsberry, the daughter of Earl and Sadie Ford Galloway. She passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025 in Troy, MO. Winona was a 1949 graduate of Elsberry High School. She was united in marriage on October 15, 1950 in Elsberry to Donald George Bowers. This union was blessed with three children: David Thomas, Bruce Earl and Donna Lynne. Winona worked as the Assistant Recorder of Deed for the Lincoln County Courthouse. She also worked for many years at the Elsberry Democrat. She was a longtime member of the Elsberry First Christian Church, where she served as Deacon Emeritus. Winona was a member of the Lincoln County Democratic Club. She was actively involved with the 9th Congressional District Democratic Club, serving as a voting delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1992. For her efforts, Winona was a recipient of the Clarence Cannon Grassroots Award. Winona was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Sadie Galloway; two infant brothers; one son, Bruce Bowers, who died on August 22, 2025; and her beloved husband of 65 years, Don Bowers, who died on August 21, 2015. Survivors include one son, David Bowers and his wife, Sue, of Dimondale, MI; one daughter, Donna Danielson and her husband, Jim, of Troy, MO; and one daughter-in-law, Starr Bowers of St. Peters, MO. Winona also leaves nine grandchildren: Becky Corley, Sam Bowers, Beth Vincent, Christy Bolender, Joe Bowers, Tori Rodgers, Ben Rodgers, Jacob Danielson and Jared Danielson; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great, great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Elsberry First Christian Church. Memorials may be made to the Elsberry First Christian Church, Joseph R. Palmer Family Memorial Library (or) Elsberry Historic Preservation Society in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
