Obituary of Louis "Jim" Powers

Funeral Services for Louis James “Jim” Powers of Elsberry, MO will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Greg Pflasterer of Elsberry First Baptist Church will officiate. Jim, 75, was born on June 1, 1950 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Louis and Betty Jean Nesselhauf Powers. He passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 10, 2025 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Peters, MO. Jim was a graduate of McCluer High School where he was a member of the swim team. He was united in marriage to Linda Finnern. This union was blessed with two children: Michelle and Louis. Jim worked in custodial maintenance for many years. He was united in marriage on September 22, 2001 in St. Charles, MO to Gayle Marie Nissing Reed. Jim had a love for water, including scuba diving. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and camping. Jim could often be found doing mechanical tinkering. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Betty Powers; and his granny, Jennie “Dollie” Richart. Survivors include his beloved wife of 24 years, Gayle Powers of Elsberry; his children: Michelle Sohovich and her husband, David, of Elsberry, Louis Powers and his wife, Christi, of St. Charles, and Jason Reed and his wife, Jennifer, of Troy, MO; ten grandchildren: Ashley and Jordan Sohovich, Olivia Harling, Emmit, Kaia and Logan Powers, Lily, Lucas and Liam Reed, and Janelle Dunn and her husband, Daniel; and three great-grandchildren: Anthony, Callie and Lance. Jim also leaves his former wife, Linda Holland and her husband, Rick, of Elsberry; other family and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Michael J.
