Obituary of Marcella M. Owens

Graveside Services for Marcella M. Owens of Elsberry, MO, formerly of Paynesville, MO will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025 at the Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Rev. Jeff Gordon, pastor of the Elsberry Holiness Church will officiate. Marcella, 96, was born on August 13, 1929 in Elsberry, MO, the daughter of Raymond E. and Sarah Edna Admire Mills. She passed away Friday morning, September 26, 2025 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Raised in the Elsberry community, Marcella was a 1946 graduate of Elsberry High School. She was united in marriage in 1974 in Elsberry to John Henry Owens, Jr. Marcella was employed as a cashier/teller at the Bank of Lincoln County in Elsberry for 33 years. Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Sarah Mills; four brothers: Glenn Mills, Ralph Mills, Laverne “Dutch” Mills and Ray “Jigs” Mills, Jr.; three sisters: Ruth Mills, who died as a child, Oneita Robinson and Mary Velma Robinson; one daughter, Tina Simpson; one step-daughter-in-law, Judy Owens; and her beloved husband of 46 years, John Owens, Jr. who died February 21, 2020. Survivors include her son, Harlan Scherrer of Cuba, MO; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four step-children: Stephanie Morris and her husband, Roy, of Elsberry, Tammy Wombles of Shenzhen, China, John “Johnny” Watts Owens of Dardenne Prairie, MO, and William “Billy Wade” Owens and his wife, Donna, of Bowling Green, MO; eighteen step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. Marcella also leaves her Elsberry Health Care Family; several cousins, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
