Rest in peace Uncle Bob. Well, the three brothers are united again, Frosty, Tom and Bob, who called each other “George” after some odd character they all knew from their youth. I will not soon forget those Sunday mornings at the farm and later in town when the three got together with their parents, my Davis grandparents, to talk about the events of the time and their individual lives, including of course politics, real estate, who had passed recently, and who had bought what farm or who had planted whatever already. Those discussions went on for what seemed like eternity in my young mind. Then there was the Sunday afternoon and sometimes Friday night card games of ROOK, with my dad and Tom versus my grandfather Benny and my uncle Bob. Those were pretty serious card games, and heaven help you if you made a bad play, which would make for a tough go the rest of the night. They grew up in the depression era with many stories about how tough it was. Even having to walk to school everyday and it being uphill in both directions and even harder in the winter when the snow was waist deep! Those were some funny stories, but I am sure with some degree of fact. My uncle Bob was a mentor for me. He was always interested in what I was doing with my career and what projects I was working on. We swapped duck hunting stories, and he related many quail hunting adventures with his best friend Howard Ross. We often searched each other out for a discussion at family get togethers just to talk about any subject imagined. My dad always worried about Uncle Tommy and Uncle Bob as my dad was the oldest brother with Uncle Bob being the youngest of the three. I guess that is what brothers do. I am sure that is still going on now but in a much better place.

Our condolences to Doc’s family. He was a kind, soft-spoken man and my favorite memory will always be trading historical fiction novels on the Civil War with Doc and then talking about them for hours. Without knowing, Doc was the trailblazer of book clubs.
With sympathy,
JB and Mary Kay Kunza

I have several several memories of this good man as I know so many do: Doc Davis came out and saved one of dad’s cows with a difficult breech calf delivery when I was a kid.
About 10 years later Dad used Doc’s technique when another cow had a similar problem and it worked.
A few years later, Doc Davis was our good next door neighbor and landlord when Bettye and I lived in Elsberry. He saved our standard sized poodle’s life when she ate some very indigestible forbidden things.
Our sympathy to the Davis family. - David Behle
