Mr. Alfred Chester Nelsen, Jr., 96, passed away Tuesday morning, December 25, 2018 at his home in Elsberry, MO.
Born August 2, 1922 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Alfred Chester and Margaret Dorothy Brethold, Sr. Alfred served his country in the United States Navy from January 19, 1943 until his honorable discharge on October 25, 1945 as an Aviation Machinist Mate, 2nd Class. He was united in marriage on October 28, 1943 in St. Louis to Jane Catherine Brinkschulte. This union was blessed with five children: Don, Sue, Sandra, Alfred III and Sherry. Alfred was a member of the 1948 Olympic Cycling Team, coached by his father. He would later successfully coach his own children in cycling: Don in the 1964 Olympics, and Sherry and Alfred to State and National Championships.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Margaret Nelsen, Sr.; one grandson, Gary Wayne Nelsen; and one son-in-law, Vince Spaziano.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 75 years, Jane Nelsen of Elsberry; their children: Don Nelsen and his wife, Cathy, of Elsberry, Sue Spaziano of Lake St. Louis, MO, Sandra Nelsen of Antioch, CA, Alfred Nelsen III and his wife, Donna, of Elsberry and Sherry Hart and her husband, Chris, also of Elsberry; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
