Dot was a friend to my mom since the 1970s when they both drove school buses for Hazelwood. When we moved back to St. Louis in the 90s, I was a teen, so that's when my memories of her began. When her husband George passed, she became even closer to my family. My aunt, Alice, absolutely LOVED when Dot would come by the house. She'd greet us, and then walk down the hall to Alice's room announcing, "I've got to go say, 'Hi!' to Alice and give her these pants I hemmed." Alice could always count on Dorothy to help make her clothes fit better, make her giggle, or just sit and chat. In doing so, she worked in concert with my parents to help take care of Alice, which was a gift to us all. She sewed the buttons on my wedding dress and did some of my bridesmaids' alterations. Later, when my son was very little, she'd make him laugh and laugh with her antics. The way I'll always remember Dot is as a spunky, hard-working, energetic lady who gave as much as she could.
