Obituary of Sharon Sue Benny

Memorial Services for Sharon “Sue” Benny of Troy, MO will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2017 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO.  Rev. Jim Greenacre of Crosspointe Baptist Church in Troy and Rev. John Birkhead of New London, MO will officiate.

Mrs. Benny, 74, went home Monday evening, October 23, 2017 to be with her Lord and Savior.  Born August 5, 1943 in the Argentville community near Winfield, she was the daughter of Benjamin Oren and Cora Parker Birkhead.  Sharon was a 1961 graduate of Winfield High School and attended Hannibal LaGrange University for one year.  She was united in marriage on December 16, 1967 in Winfield to John Gary Benny.  This union was blessed with three sons: Wayne, Wade and Paul.  Sue attended Crosspointe Baptist Church in Troy and worked for several years as a daycare caregiver.  She loved gardening, cake decorating and her pets.  Sue was a member of the Red Hat Society.    

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Cora Birkhead; three brothers: Benjamin Birkhead, Jr., James Birkhead and George Birkhead; three sisters: Martha Wayman, Dorothy Hilton and Helen Tayon; and one granddaughter, Catelyn Benny.

Survivors include her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Gary Benny of Troy; their sons: Wayne Benny of Jonesborough, TN, Wade Benny and his wife, Jeanna, of Wentzville, MO and Paul Benny and his wife, Christy, of Troy; and eight grandchildren: Anna, Stephen, Joshua, Zachary, Elizabeth, Bella, Sophia and George.  Sue also leaves two sisters: Marjorie Wagner-Montgomery of Troy and Jean Brown and her husband, Bob, also of Troy; one brother, Rev. John Birkhead and his wife, Linda, of New London, MO; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and numerous others who knew her as “Granny Sue.”

Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the time of Memorial Services at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2017 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.  Memorials may be made to Hannibal LaGrange University in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 3838 East Highway 47, P.O.
