Obituary of Mary Velma Calvin

Funeral Services for Mary Velma Calvin of Winona, MO, formerly of Elsberry, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. January 2, 2017 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Rev. Eugene Abrams of Doniphan, MO, will officiate with burial in Corinth Cemetery near Foley, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Andy Calvin, Dan Dyer, Jr., Will Tolbert, Jr., Jeffery Gordon, Rob Calvin, Brad Calvin and Sam Harding; and honorary pallbearers will be Kaylee Calvin, Lilly Calvin and Jason Calvin. Mrs. Calvin, 68, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 28, 2016 at Ozark Medical Center in West Plains, MO. Born August 13, 1948 in the New Hope Community near Elsberry, she was the daughter of Marion William and Elsie Lee Barnes Harding. Mary was united in marriage on October 5, 1967 in the Chantilly Community near Winfield to James Edward Calvin. This union was blessed with two daughters: Marion Annette and Sandra Lynn. Mary worked as a hat factory seamstress for a number of years. She was a member of Faith Tabernacle Bibleway Assembly in Winona. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Elsie Harding; four brothers: Jim Harding, John “J.T.” Harding, Joe Harding and Frankie Harding, Sr.; six sisters: Virginia Riffle, Earnetta Tolbert, Margie Gordon, Elsie Gordon, Norma Robinson and Marion Eileen Locklin; and one son-in-law, Jack Leon Harris. Survivors include her beloved husband of 49 years, James Calvin of Winona; and two daughters: Annette Harris of St. Charles, MO and Sandra Tarter and her husband, Steven, of Winona. Mary also leaves three sisters: Opal Louis Dyer and her husband, Danny, of Moscow Mills, MO, Georgia Ann Gordon and her husband, Doyle, of Foley and Edna Elizabeth Nickelson and her husband Walter, of Winfield; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2017 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
