Obituary of Darrell Eugene Sorter

Funeral Services and Full Military Honors for Darrell Eugene Sorter of Winfield, MO will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. The Family will officiate. Mr. Sorter, 81, passed away Tuesday morning, December 27, 2016 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Peters, MO. Born July 31, 1935 in Paris, AR, he was the son of Carl and Gladys Sisk Sorter. Darrell was a graduate of McCurtain High School in McCurtain, OK. He served his country in the United States Air Force and National Guard from June 1, 1954 until his retirement on November 21, 1985 as Senior Master Sergeant. During his service, Darrell worked as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician at Lambert Field. He was united in marriage on August 17, 1957 in Silverton, TX to Patricia Jean Patton. This union was blessed with four children: Doug, Brenda, Sheri and Gary. After retiring from the Military, Darrell worked at McDonnell Douglas from 1987-1997 as a Military Jet Plane Inspector. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Gladys Sorter; grandparents: Minnie and Charlie Turner; his uncle, Bud Sisk; and one son, Gary DeWayne Sorter, who died as an infant. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Patricia “Pat” Sorter of Winfield; their son, Doug Sorter and his wife, Reggie, of Winfield; two daughters: Brenda Blankenship and her husband, Richard, of Columbia, MO and Sheri Simonson of Winfield; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
