Obituary of Leslie Herman McLain

Funeral Services for Leslie Herman McLain of Elsberry, MO will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Fr. Richard Rath, pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe, MO, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. Mr. McLain, 94, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 25, 2016 at his home. Born July 22, 1922 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Lester and Loretta Booker McLain. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from December 28, 1942 until he was honorably discharged on December 7, 1945 as a Sergeant. During his service, Les earned four bronze stars while in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He also earned the Good Conduct Medal. On January 30, 1945, Les was awarded the Purple Heart following his service in Belgium. On August 16, 1947 in St. Louis, Les was united in marriage to MaryAnn Catherine Behrman. This union was blessed with four children: Karen, Judith, Timothy and Thomas. Les worked as an auto mechanic for Pratt Buick for many years. When his health allowed, Les loved hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Loretta McLain; two brothers: Charles McLain, who died during World War II service, and Joseph McLain; one sister, Loretta McLain, who died as a child; one son, Thomas McLain, on September 18, 1984; and his beloved wife of 67 years, MaryAnn McLain, on November 12, 2014. Survivors include three children: Karen Walcott and her husband, Gary, of Winfield, Judith Wilburn of Silex, MO and Timothy McLain and his wife, Brenda, of Foley, MO; many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren. Les also leaves one sister, Lillian Kramer of Hermann, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
