Obituary of Walter David McClay, Sr.

Funeral Services for Walter David McClay, Sr. of Troy, MO will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Troy First Baptist Church. Rev. Richard Rhea, church senior pastor, will officiate with burial in the Troy City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Walter McClay, Jr., Daniel Overall, Mark Peasel, Tim Nothaker, Aaron Spencer and Frank Koster, Jr. Mr. McClay, Sr., 91, passed away Saturday night, August 27, 2016 at his home. Born September 1, 1924 in Winfield, MO, he was the son of Walter Arthur and Florence Cannon McClay, Jr. Walter served his country in the United States Army. He was united in marriage on December 8, 1970 to Betty Overall at New Salem Baptist Church near Winfield, MO. This union was blessed with one son, Walter Jr. Walter and Betty celebrated 21 years of marriage before Betty’s death on February 28, 1992. He was employed as a welder and inspector for the Ford Motor Company, retiring after 34 years of employment. Walter was united in marriage on March 11, 1993 in St. Charles, MO to Mary Margaret Duncan Brolaski. He was a member of the Troy American Legion Post #410, TOCOA and a lifetime member of the Troy VFW Post #8828. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Troy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Florence McClay, Jr.; one brother, Henry McClay; four sisters: Mabel Portwood, Lucy Jackson, Edna Young and Grace Walsh; one step-daughter, Sarah Spencer; his first wife, Betty McClay; and his second wife, Mary McClay, who died January 16, 2005. Survivors include his son, Walter McClay, Jr. of Troy; two step-daughters: Anna Brown and her husband, Kermit, of Eolia, MO and Bonnie Koster and her husband, Frank, of Silex, MO; and three step-sons: Daniel Overall and his wife, Virginia, of O’Fallon, MO, David Overall and Rolla Overall, both of Houston, TX. Walter leaves other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Troy First Baptist Church.
