Obituary of William "Lyndon" Holmes

Funeral Services for William Bill Lyndon Holmes of Richardson, TX will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Rev. Mike Ryan, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Winfield, will officiate with burial in Corinth Cemetery near Foley, MO. Mr. Holmes, 95, passed away Tuesday morning, July 26, 2016 at Silverado Memory Care in Plano, TX. Born March 26, 1921 in Foley, he was the son of William and Minnie Esther Masterson Holmes. Lyndon was a 1938 graduate of Winfield High School. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy Submarine Division in the Asian Pacific Fleet from June 5, 1939 until he was honorably discharged on September 20, 1945 as a Radioman First Class, completing 9 war patrols. Lyndon was united in marriage on April 1, 1946 in St. Louis, MO to Margaret “Peggy” Jane Dawkins. This union was blessed with four children: Kay Ellen, Lynda Lee, Michael Lyndon and Gary Lewis. Lyndon again served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Sunbird from September 19, 1950 until he was honorably discharged on February 14, 1952. Attending college thru the GI Bill, Lyndon was a 1950 graduate of the Washington University School of Engineering with a BSEE in St. Louis, MO. Lyndon worked in the electronics industry for 40 years, participating in pioneering many innovations, including the remote control of drone aircraft, guided missiles, guided bombs and infrared radar. He traveled all over the world in the course of work, retiring from Texas Instruments in Dallas, TX in 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Minnie Holmes; his beloved wife of 58 years, Peggy Holmes, who died May 22, 2004; one daughter, Lynda Massey; and two sons: Michael Holmes and Gary Holmes. Survivors include one daughter, Ellen Wade of Plano, TX; one granddaughter, Lyndsay Massey of Richardson, TX; and one great-grandson, William. Lyndon also leaves other relatives and many friends in and around Foley, MO and Richardson, TX. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
