Obituary of Donald Wayne Sartain

Funeral Services for Donald Wayne Sartain of St. Peters, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Jim Chapman of Lake St. Louis, MO and Rev. John Lilley of Elsberry, MO, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. Mr. Sartain, 72, passed away late Wednesday night, September 23, 2015 at his home. Born June 30, 1943 in Scottsboro, AL, he was the son of Ruth (Cowart) Philpot. Don was a 1962 of Elsberry High School. He served his country in the United States Navy from July 30, 1962 on three separate aircraft carriers until he was honorably discharged on June 25, 1964 as a Parachute Rigger 3 (E-4). He then served in the Naval Reserves until July 29, 1968. Don was united in marriage on January 1, 1966 in Elsberry to Patty Jean Kuykendall. This union was blessed with one son, Patrick. Don worked as a retail manager and later as a realtor for Berkshire Hathaway Realtors, retiring in April 2015. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Muriel Philpot; three uncles: Dewey Cowart, Nick Wallace and Cecil Cowart; and one aunt, Wanda Joyce Miller. Survivors include his beloved wife of 49 years, Patty Sartain of St. Peters; their son, Patrick Sartain and his wife, Wendi, of Lake St. Louis; and two grandchildren: Henry and Harper Sartain. Don also leaves his mother, Ruth Philpot of St. Peters, MO; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
