Wayne, 58, passed away early Saturday morning, September 12, 2015 at Troy Manor in Troy, MO. Born February 14, 1957 in Louisiana, MO, he was the son of William McAfee Stillwell and Hazel Garnett McDonald. Wayne attended Elementary School in Elsberry, received his GED in Hannibal and earned certification in Diesel Engine Mechanics from Bailey Tech School in the late 1970’s. Wayne was well known by Elsberry citizens and businesses as he spent time working in yards and other odd jobs available. After accepting Christ, Wayne was a member of the Elsberry First Baptist Church where he was baptized. Physical problems with his heart and knee kept Wayne from working as much as he would like. He loved to read to pass the time. As his health worsened, Wayne had many tests and hospital stays at Pike County Memorial Hospital, Mercy Hospital and finally, St. Joseph Hospital West, Wayne was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. The last month and a half of his life, Wayne spent at Troy Manor where Hospice was available. Wayne was a gentle, kind and appreciative to all who cared for him. He enjoyed visits from relatives and friends. He spent a great deal of time on the phone taking care of things. Wayne’s greatest concern was for his Mother, Hazel, who had broken her hip and was recovering from surgery at Delmar Gardens in O’Fallon, MO. Hazel was able to visit Wayne on his last full day, September 11, 2015, which was Hazel’s birthday. He was preceded in death by his father, William Stillwell. Survivors include his mother, Hazel Stillwell; and three half-sisters: Mary Parker-Hunter of Elsberry, Suzanne and Wanda. Wayne also leaves his nieces and nephews: Mary Preston, Ruby Irving, Bonnie Perkins, Phyllis Wyatt and her husband, Robert, Henry LeRoy Hunter and his wife, Tina, of Elsberry, Johnnie Hunter of Flora, MO, Curtis D. Hunter, Ezra Allen Hunter and his wife, Curtissa, Jesse Louis Hunter and Billy Joe Hunter, all of Elsberry; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
