Obituary of Lula Irene Burger

Funeral Services for Lula Irene Burger of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. Rev. Justin Perry, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Virburnum, will officiate with burial in Star Hope Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Aaron Burger, Josh Funke, Mike Griffin, Nick Sciarratta, Chad Stone and John Stone. Mrs. Burger, 97, passed away early Monday morning, August 31, 2015 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born May 6, 1918 in the Burr Oak Community near Foley, MO, she was the daughter of James Lewis and Mary Jane McClellin Norton. She was a 1935 graduate of Paynesville High School in Paynesville, MO. Lula was united in marriage on February 12, 1946 in Winfield, MO to Roy Benjamin Burger. This union was blessed with one daughter, Joyce and one son, Frederick. Lula was an active member of the Star Hope Baptist Church and a member of the Baptist Women Missionary Union, WMU. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Norton; her sister, Violet Stone, who died March 6, 2012; her daughter, Joyce Stone, who died June 9, 2009; and her beloved husband of 51 years, Roy Burger, who died July 30, 1997. Survivors include her son, Fred Burger and his wife, Debbie, of Elsberry; her son-in-law, Bob Stone of Elsberry; two grandsons: Chad Stone and his girlfriend, Missy, of Elsberry and Aaron Burger and his wife, Valerie, of St. Paul, MO; three granddaughters: Regina Stone and her boyfriend, Dave, of O’Fallon, MO, Angela Funke and her husband, Josh, of St. Paul and Jennifer Perry and her husband, Justin, of Virburnum, MO; and nine great-grandchildren: Kyle Stone, Connor Stone, Wyatt Stone, Chelsie Trent, Selah Perry, Mercy Funke, Micah Funke, Ellie Burger and Leo Burger. Lula also leaves behind one nephew, John Stone and his wife, Rosina, of Lake St. Louis, MO; many other beloved relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
