Obituary of Wanda Lee Slaughter

Funeral Services for Wanda Lee Slaughter of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Eloise Slaughter, assistant pastor of Silex Assembly of God Church, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be T.J. Sherrow, Brad Slaughter, Brandon Slaughter, Brennen Slaughter, Tyler McNelly and Ryan McNelly. Mrs. Slaughter, 67, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 7, 2015 at her home. Born October 28, 1947 in Clarksville, MO, she was the daughter of Forrest and Katherine Downing Swarnes. She was united in marriage on October 5, 1963 in Clarksville to Calvin Slaughter. This union was blessed with two children: Calvin, Jr. and Tina. Wanda worked as the assistant manager for Dollar General for 10 years. Wanda then worked as a store clerk for the Elsberry IGA until her retirement in 2012. She was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers, Local #655 in Ballwin, MO. She was preceded in death by her father, Forrest Swarnes; and one sister, Bernie Howard. Survivors include her beloved husband of 51 years, Calvin Slaughter of Elsberry; her son, Jr. Slaughter and his wife, Beth, of Elsberry; her daughter, Tina McNelly and her husband, Calvin, also of Elsberry; eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Wanda also leaves her mother, Katherine Swarnes of Clarksville; two brothers: Frank Swarnes and his wife, Vickie, of Louisiana, MO and Willie Swarnes and his wife, Joelene, of Nebraska; three sisters: Carolyn Stokes and her husband, Mark, of Bowling Green, MO, Margaret Blackwell and her husband, Derreck, of Clarksville and Phyllis Clay and her husband, Paul, of Elsberry; several in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
